2020 Homeschool check-in

What does your homeschool look like in 2020?
We have fallen into a super flow lifestyle where we take it day by day. Possibly hour by hour. Lots of check-ins with each other. It hasn’t been easy - I do feel I’m being pulled in a hundred different directions.
The stress level of society as a whole is at an all-time high.
Supporting friends & family in need has been a top priority along with my own mental health.
It’s another year with a whole bunch of shifting.
Sometimes drowning & sometimes riding the wave.
All the processing + moments of shining like the sun.
The last thing we should be stressing about is how we are going to school our children.
This year I let go of a lot. If there was major push back from the kids we would go back a few steps. We are taking it so very slow. I work on my projects while encouraging them to find their own along with goal setting.
Which is how I wanted to raise my kids anyways. Even though we are a big unschool family - it just seems different & possibly deeper with more of an emphasis on community building.
I asked myself after looking around - Which part of life can I make peaceful?
Home. Home will always be the answer.
Home is where we come back to. Home is where we rest our bodies. Home is an extension of ourselves.
Now is not the time to stress over curriculum.
We have been given an amazing opportunity. We can choose to make the most of this time or continue feeding into the stress & fear.
Besides that - does anyone else feel that traditional school has crumbled? So many eyes are open to how the school system is running. So many have a gut feeling traditional school is not for them.
When something falls apart it’s because it had to. Growth has been called in & a rebuild will happen.
I choose to create when there are major opportunities like this.
Earlier this year I asked myself what I wanted to see more of in my life & what might that look like.
& I’ll tell ya! After sharing some hopes & dreams - so many others have shown up & have also been feeling the same way.
In my vision - school is not separate from community
In my vision we read books together.
We grow together. We BE together. We create together.
We set boundaries together. We break bread together.
We witness 2020 together. In all of its glory.
This is not just a vision anymore. We have created a community. Others have created their community.
We are being called to unite. & boy have we ever.
Here’s to another possible growth wave around the corner. May you choose to ride it through until it all comes together.
