I saw a post recently on a homeschool page where someone asked what others do to get their child to finish a lesson & what types of rewards they use.
My reply?
We dont - we unschool.
Organic homeschooling to me is flowing with the day + season. It’s more about the connection in conversation & curiosity than finishing a workbook page.
Our schooling doesn’t stop when summer hits. My kids do not know what a “school year” is or what that looks like. My children don’t know to stop learning and relax on the weekends.
How does an 8 year old homeschooler see her life?
What is she learning & what is important to her?
This is her story and how she sees her day.
I imagine a world where kids have the opportunity to follow their passions 100% at a young age.
What would that look like?
Join me as a breakdown an amazing quote on unschooling.
Knowing our WHY is so important.
Our why shapes our world.
Our why is linked to everything we do.
We are unschoolers. There I said it - haha! We are many titles and I embrace the ever changing but for them to learn how to read + write - I really took a step back.
So many many articles + books written on the importance of sending our kids outside. Less screens & more play, right?
Of course, but what I’m here to share with you right here + right now, is just how simple it is to raise a nature loving child. It doesn’t require you to book four expensive plane tickets to a national park, or even require you to get into the car. If you have a patch of grass, that is enough.
How do you make a final decision? Making decisions can be incredibly difficult when we want all the things + can see every different way we can be living life to the fullest.
The truth is I wasn’t concerned about socialization until people started to ask about it, when they found out we homeschooled. I just want to state it here that we actually don’t live in a bubble and we leave the house almost daily! I know crazy! Really though I’d like to label what we do as naturally socializing. Then it got me thinking that maybe this isn’t so natural anymore!
I learned that when I connect to the seasons and align myself fully to each one, I feel more at peace. Especially with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I could feel the tug of winter wanting me to slow down and go inward but I didn’t make the time, until I had kids. I found myself questioning everything right along side of them. Which naturally brought me to understand on a deeper level, spiritually.
Welcome! I’m Krystal & this is my first ever blog post! As someone who often changes her mind - I am so very proud, that as a family, we have continued to homeschool after seven years. I’m starting it off by sharing three values that have stuck with us throughout the years.
